Conjoined Soviet Twins, a Voice in the Dark and a Stone-Throwing Yowie Fill One Podcast Hour
Weird Darkness devotes an episode to Masha and Dasha Krivoshlyapova, a child's warning to cover her feet, and two old Australian accounts of rock-hurling creatures.
THE INTERNET — The podcast Weird Darkness has released an episode whose lead segment, according to its show notes, concerns Masha and Dasha Krivoshlyapova, conjoined twins born in Moscow in January of 1950. Their mother, the notes say, was told the girls had died of pneumonia, while Soviet scientists kept them for experiments.
The notes state that physiologist Pyotr Anokhin was among those who used the sisters, packing one in ice while taking the other's temperature and shocking them in time to a metronome. British journalist Juliet Butler, who befriended them in 1988, came to believe that Masha had all the traits of a psychopath and that Dasha had become an empath. Dasha died in 2003, about seventeen hours after her sister, the summary says.
The second segment is a listener's account. Alexis Bishop recalls a house where the author's mother heard small footsteps like a child's after midnight, and a night when a 13-year-old, lying with both feet outside the blanket, heard a voice say, "cover your feet".
The third segment is a true-crime account of Jessica Ridgeway, 10, who left her Westminster, Colorado, home on October 5th, 2012, to walk to school and never arrived. Her remains were later found in Arvada, and a 17-year-old, Austin Reed Sigg, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to life in prison plus 86 years, according to the notes.
The hour closes with two Australian reports of stone-throwing Yowies, one from the Sydney Mail of 1928 and one from an 1892 letter to the Armidale Express, in which four stockmen were said to have been chased through the night by something hurling stones. The notes add that the host uses no artificial voices in the narration.
