Broadcasting Executive, 42, Reports Floating From Sofa After Strange Spring Vibrations

THE ASTRAL PLANE — A web post published by the Unarius Academy of Science under the title "Adventures Of An Astral Traveler" revives the account of Robert A. Monroe, who by the post's telling was a pragmatic 42-year-old broadcasting executive living a conventional suburban life with his family in the spring of 1958.

According to the post, Mr. Monroe had no prior history of mystical interests or unusual occurrences. The trouble began, it says, during a quiet afternoon rest, when a sudden and intense surge of vibrations swept through his body. The sensation is described as an overwhelming electrical frequency that left him paralyzed and deeply disoriented.

The post states that the episodes recurred and that his first reaction was panic. He feared, it says, a brain tumor, a stroke, or the loss of his sanity. He is reported to have sought thorough medical and psychiatric evaluations. His doctors, the post says, found him in excellent physical and mental health and could identify no pathology behind the shocks.

The account then takes a more remarkable turn. During a later episode, the post claims, he was not left immobile but felt himself float toward the ceiling. Looking down, he is said to have seen his physical body lying motionless on the furniture below.

Conscious and alert, the author writes, he concluded that he possessed a non-physical "second body" able to pass through solid structures and view the physical world from a wholly different perspective. The excerpt breaks off at that point, with the remainder available to readers who continue to the full post. No independent verification of any of these claims is offered in the material.
