Authorities in Santa Cruz, California, have captured an escaped emu found wandering the city's streets, according to a report from UPI's Odd News service. The bird was rounded up just days after a separate incident involving another emu in the same city.

The brief report, which is accompanied by video, confirms that the animal was at large in an urban setting and that officials succeeded in bringing it under control. It does not say how the capture was carried out, how long the bird was loose, or whether anyone was hurt.

Nor does the source material state where either emu came from, whether the two birds are connected, or what became of the second animal after its apprehension. Those questions, for the present, remain open.

Residents of Santa Cruz may take some comfort in the fact that the second emu is reported to be in the hands of authorities. Whether a third bird is at large was not addressed in the report.
