Black Triangle Seen by Federal Agents Lingered in Files Four Months Before Release

A Reddit user asks why two government documents on a June sighting, which disagree on duration and timing, surfaced only in October.

Strangeness 3 of 5

A Reddit user posting to r/UFOs on October 28 has drawn attention to a pair of government documents describing a matte-black triangular object, reportedly seen at a sensitive site in the western United States in June 2026.

According to the post, an AARO memo designated DOW-UAP-D176 records that two federal special agents and a third official watched the object, which was said to measure 13 to 15 feet across, rise 200 to 300 feet above a ridgeline. It is described as hovering for about 20 seconds before banking and dropping toward a canyon in two to three seconds.

The post states that a ground survey the following morning found no wreckage and no scarring. AARO, the author writes, says the case warrants further investigation.

The documents do not entirely agree. The post says a separate FBI statement, FBI-UAP-D043, puts the whole event at about three seconds, rather than the 20-second hover in the AARO memo. The two files also differ by an hour on the time of the first call.

Both files, according to the post, became public only on October 23 as part of PURSUE Release 07, roughly four months after the reported sighting. The author closes with a pair of questions: why release so open a case, and why now. The post offers no answer, and none is supplied in the source material.
