Luminous Formation Over Chile Draws Hundreds of Witnesses; Rocket Launch Suspected

A bright, slowly expanding light seen from Valparaíso to Los Lagos on the night of October 24-25 has produced a flood of videos and a leading, though unconfirmed, explanation.

An unusual luminous phenomenon, described in some quarters as a supposed UFO, surprised hundreds of witnesses across Chile on the night of October 24-25, according to an article by Alejandra Castellano for Central Noticia, republished by the blog Inexplicata. The event is said to have lasted only a few minutes, though it was long enough to generate numerous recordings that spread quickly across digital platforms.

Observers, the article says, captured an intense, bright formation that appeared to expand slowly against the dark sky. Because many people filmed it at once and from different positions, the episode became in the author's telling a nationwide sighting rather than a local curiosity.

The reach was considerable. According to the report, residents in the central and southern parts of the country shared much the same description of a luminous trail crossing the night sky. Towns and cities named as places where residents documented the object include San Antonio, Concón and Hijuelas in the Valparaíso Region; Chillán in the Ñuble Region; Talcahuano in the Biobío Region; and Osorno in the Los Lagos Region.

A large share of the footage was gathered by a TikTok profile known as Tío OVNI, or Uncle UFO, an account devoted to tracking unusual aerial phenomena. The article states that its creator assembled a compilation of nearly ten minutes, built from clips sent in by his community, so that viewers could compare how the object looked from different regions.

Black Triangle Seen by Federal Agents Lingered in Files Four Months Before Release

A Reddit user asks why two government documents on a June sighting, which disagree on duration and timing, surfaced only in October.

Strangeness 3 of 5

A Reddit user posting to r/UFOs on October 28 has drawn attention to a pair of government documents describing a matte-black triangular object, reportedly seen at a sensitive site in the western United States in June 2026.

According to the post, an AARO memo designated DOW-UAP-D176 records that two federal special agents and a third official watched the object, which was said to measure 13 to 15 feet across, rise 200 to 300 feet above a ridgeline. It is described as hovering for about 20 seconds before banking and dropping toward a canyon in two to three seconds.

Nine Vanished 'Stars' on 1950 Palomar Plate Prompt Open Call for Evidence

A Reddit post describes a challenge inviting citizen scientists and university teams to search pre-Sputnik glass plates for similar flashes, with prizes of up to $75,000.

Strangeness 2 of 5

A Reddit user posting to r/UFOs has drawn attention to a 76-year-old astronomical puzzle and to a new public effort to resolve it. According to the post, a telescope at Palomar Observatory photographed a patch of sky on a glass plate on April 12, 1950.

The author writes that astronomers who re-examined the plate decades later found nine star-like points of light. These points, the post says, do not appear on a photograph of the same spot taken half an hour earlier, and do not show up in any modern survey of the sky.

Argentine Truck Driver's Missing Night on Route 3 Revisited, Fifty Years On

Investigator Fabio Zerpa recounts how a tire change near Bahía Blanca allegedly ended with three visitors, a scalpel and a surge on the power grid.

Strangeness 3 of 5
Image: Inexplicata

A UFO researcher's account of the 1973 Dionisio Llanca case has been republished on the blog Inexplicata. It is drawn from Fabio Zerpa's book on extraterrestrial beings, and it describes what Zerpa calls a fourth-kind encounter, that is, an abduction.

According to Zerpa, Llanca, then a 25-year-old truck driver hauling construction materials toward Río Gallegos, stopped on Route 3 at about 1:30 a.m. on October 28 to change a low tire. He reports that a yellowish light halted behind him, that a brilliant glare left him paralyzed, and that three figures, two men and a woman, appeared at his side. One of them, the account says, cut his right hand. Llanca then lost his memory and is said to have woken 48 hours later in a hospital.

Knocks, Slates and Trumpets: Séance Rooms Where Eminent Men Vouched for the Dead

A Weird Darkness survey recounts eight decades of mediums, from Hydesville in 1848 to Boston in the 1920s, and the scientists who sat in the circle.

Strangeness 2 of 5

A new article from Weird Darkness traces the history of the séance, beginning on the night of March 31st, 1848, in a house at Hydesville, Wayne County, New York. There, according to the account, Kate Fox snapped her fingers and called on "old Splitfoot," and the knocking in the house answered her.

The family's questions drew raps in reply, the article says, and the unseen presence claimed to be a murdered peddler. The girls' mother stated that she was "not a believer in haunted houses or supernatural appearances." Neighbors gave statements, men dug in the cellar until they struck water, and a pamphlet followed that April.

Stirling's Hangman Did Not Choke on a Chicken Bone, Says Folklorist

David Kinnaird, who has played Jock Rankin on the Stirling Ghost Walk for decades, reports that burgh records tell a different tale from the legend.

Strangeness 1 of 5
Image: Spooky Isles

The hangman who choked upon a chicken bone is a figure beloved of Stirling storytellers, but according to Spooky Isles, the man who knows him best doubts the tale. Actor, writer and folklorist David Kinnaird has portrayed Jock Rankin, the town's torturer and executioner, on the Stirling Ghost Walk for decades.

While researching his book Auld Stirling Punishments, Mr Kinnaird says, he found a notice of dismissal and banishment in the burgh archives. In the familiar legend, Rankin's wife, Isabell Kilconquahar, known as Tibbie Cawker, dropped the fatal bone into his broth. The records, he says, describe instead her conviction for stealing cheese, port and shirts from a neighbour's cellar. Rankin was made to whip his wife through the town before being sent back to Ayr.

NIGHT SOUNDS

Owl Calls Draw Near Pennsylvania Home as Father Flees With Toddler, Clicking Follows

A Reddit user in Appalachia says a humming session after dark brought approaching owl-like cries, then a rapid clicking, and a porch camera that went offline.

Strangeness 3 of 5

A father in central Pennsylvania has described a frightening night in a post to r/Paranormal, saying that owl calls outside his home moved steadily closer while he hummed a nursery song to his sleepless two-and-a-half-year-old daughter.

According to the post, the author grew up with the Appalachian rule that one does not sing or hum after dark. His house, he writes, is kept warm, so the wooden door stands open behind a closed screen, letting the outdoors in. After walking the child about for some time with music playing, he switched it off and noticed the owls sounded subtly different. He began to hum, and after about two bars, he says, the calls seemed nearer: behind the neighbor's house, then the end of the driveway, then the foot of the stairs.

Montauk Project Resurfaces on /x/, Drawing Timelines, Skeptics and a Flooding Complaint

An anonymous thread on the Long Island time-travel legend sets reading lists against remarks about the water table.

An anonymous poster on 4chan's /x/ board has reopened one of the more durable legends of American conspiracy lore, the Montauk Project, and drawn 26 replies so far. The opening post says the matter was "discovered by accident through ufo researchers."

The post summarizes the theory as alleging a series of United States government projects at Camp Hero, or Montauk Air Force Station, in New York. Their purpose, according to the legend, was psychological warfare techniques and exotic research including time travel. It adds that the story originated in the books of Preston Nichols, who blended it with accounts of the Bulgarian Experiment.

A ghost tour of Gettysburg last month has left one of Pennsylvania's senior tourism officials with a photograph she cannot account for and a pair of sneakers that, by her telling, would not stay tied. Anne Ryan, the state's deputy secretary of tourism, told The Philadelphia Inquirer she attended as a skeptic while hosting a group of writers.

According to the account, the tour stopped at a house known online as the "Baltimore Street Murder House," where a murder had allegedly taken place in one room. Ryan took a phone photo hoping to capture what ghost hunters call orbs. What came back, she said, was a glowing white shape she still cannot explain. "You could really feel the energy," she said, adding that she is not an "energy" person.
