Daniel Craig Buys Clerkenwell Pub With Reputed Cellar Ghost
The actor best known as James Bond is said to have acquired The Horseshoe, a 250-year-old London inn whose former staff describe an unseen presence below stairs.
CLERKENWELL, LONDON — Daniel Craig, 58, the actor who most recently portrayed the secret agent James Bond, has purchased a historic public house in London, according to reports cited by Unexplained Mysteries, which in turn credits the Evening Standard.
The establishment, The Horseshoe, is said to date back some 250 years and stands in the Clerkenwell district. According to the report, it also carries a haunted reputation, with former employees telling of a spirit said to lurk in the cellar.
Landlady Pauline Tucker is quoted as saying of the presence: "You don't see him. You feel him." The report does not describe any investigation of the claim, nor offer any mundane explanation for the sensation.
The prospect of a resident phantom appears not to have troubled the new owner. Mr. Craig told The Times, according to the article, that he did not know what the ghost drinks, but that a pint might have to be left in the cellar.
He is reported to have plans to refurbish the premises. The article closes by observing that the identity of Mr. Craig's successor in the Bond role remains a mystery likely to go unsolved for some time.
