Pilots Over Ohio Report Silver Pill-Shaped Object Hanging Motionless at 43,000 Feet
A report filed with the National UFO Reporting Center says the object showed on neither collision-warning gear nor radar, and lasted only a couple of minutes.
CLEVELAND, OHIO — A flight crew passing over Ohio on August 16th reported an encounter with a silver, pill-shaped object hanging almost motionless high above the earth, according to a report filed with the National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC) and relayed this week by the website Unexplained Mysteries, which in turn credits Mail Online.
The account states that the pilots contacted Cleveland Center air traffic controllers to ask about the object. It was described as metallic and silver in colour, and appeared nearly stationary at an altitude of 43,000 feet as the aircraft closed upon it.
The author of the report was particular about the surface of the thing. It was said to be silver and highly reflective, and the author wrote that it looked "like pure polished metal." The writer added that there were no warps or creases upon it, and that it was not tapered at the bottom.
The matter grew stranger, the report says, when it became apparent that the aircraft's collision-warning system had failed to register the object at all. Air traffic controllers, according to the account, confirmed that nothing appeared on radar in the position described.
The aircraft is said to have passed the object at 380 miles per hour and soon left it far behind. The whole encounter, according to the report, lasted only a couple of minutes, a brief interval in which the crew had little opportunity for further study.
The report does not offer an explanation, and none appears in the source. The article states that, to date, no conclusive explanation for the sighting has been found. It also notes that the image accompanying the original item was generated by artificial intelligence and is not a photograph of the event.
As with all submissions to NUFORC, the account is a claim made by its author and has not been independently verified in the material available. Readers may judge for themselves whether a polished pill over Ohio is a matter for the aviation authorities, the meteorologists, or merely the next entry in the files.
