Christopher Knowles, author of the Substack publication The Secret Sun, announced on October 30 that he has solved what he describes as the central mystery of The Exorcist, the story that has provoked argument and theorizing since its release.

According to the post, the countless interpretations circulating online, however impressive, all overlook one crucial key. The post does not state what that key is, directing readers instead to a video said to contain the evidence.

Knowles contends that William Peter Blatty, whom he describes as erudite and well-read, did not choose the demon Pazuzu by accident. The post notes that Pazuzu is known as a protector of children, and treats the choice as deliberate.

The central claim, as the author puts it, is that the work was written to send a specific message to a specific person, warning that a specific child was in danger. Neither the person nor the child is named in the text of the post, and the evidence is offered only in the accompanying video, which this newspaper has not been able to review.

The post appears under the banner of the author's Secret Sun Extension School and is public. It closes with the customary invitation to share it and to subscribe. Readers wishing to weigh the receipts for themselves are advised to consult the video directly.
