Two Children at Play at 3 A.M., and a Father's Belated Tale of the Spot

A Reddit user says a nursery-rhyme tune and a pair of small figures were followed, two years on, by a family story about a child's death outside the house.

Strangeness 3 of 5

A Reddit user posting to r/Paranormal has described a nocturnal encounter that, the author says, took on a new character only this week, when a casual family conversation supplied what the writer regards as a possible explanation.

According to the post, the incident occurred in early October about two years ago, at roughly 2:23 a.m. The author reports hearing what sounded like a children's toy phone playing nursery rhymes. A search of the balcony and terrace turned up no source. Through a terrace-facing window, the writer says, two children of perhaps five or six years were seen running and playing in front of the house. After four or five seconds one vanished behind a wall, while the other paused, looked directly at the observer, and then followed.

The author writes that no children so young were known to live in the colony. The experience was kept from family, for fear of being taken to a priest, and from friends, for fear of ridicule. Two days of unease followed. Similar sounds of children playing were reportedly heard on two or three occasions in May 2025, and screaming in November 2025, after which, the post says, nothing further occurred.

The new development came yesterday, when the author's father, in conversation with a visiting aunt, recalled that around 1990 a neighbourhood child had died of poisoning, allegedly at the hands of an uncle, at the very spot in front of the house. For two or three years afterward, the father reportedly said, several people, the author's grandfather among them, saw a child playing there and heard odd sounds.

The author is left with questions, chiefly the identity of the second child, since only one is said to have died. The post concedes that hallucination, coincidence or a memory-related phenomenon cannot be ruled out, and asks readers for similar accounts and for any psychological explanation. No corroboration beyond the family recollection is offered.
