Bronze Age Giants' Tomb Awaits Visitors Down a Path of Stone Arrows
A listing on Atlas Obscura describes an imposing ancient burial monument in Dorgali, reachable by a short walk and guided by hand-arranged markers.
DORGALI, ITALY — A Bronze Age tomb of considerable size stands a short distance from the SP 38 road in Dorgali, according to a entry on the travel website Atlas Obscura, which calls the structure "huge and impressive." The site is listed under the name Tomba dei Gigante S'Ena e Thimes.
The entry says the tomb lies about five minutes' walk from the road. Visitors who set out on foot are not left entirely to their own devices: the listing reports directional arrows on the ground, formed from stones arranged into arrow shapes. Each arrow, the entry notes, is unique.
The front face of the monument, the entry states, is composed of several very large stones set upright. The central stone has an opening at its base, through which, the listing says, a visitor may look into the tomb itself.
Those wishing to see the rear of the structure are given instructions of a practical nature. According to the entry, one may reach the back by slipping between two of the smaller stones, a couple of metres to the right of the largest one.
The listing offers no further detail on the tomb's builders, its age beyond the designation of Bronze Age, or what it may contain. It is, in the manner of such entries, content to point the way, and the stone arrows do the rest.
