Homeowner Uppercuts Tall Dark Figure That Said 'Hello?' in Unlit Kitchen

THE INTERNET — A Reddit user posting to r/Paranormal has described an encounter in a darkened kitchen that ended, by the author's account, with a single well-placed uppercut and an empty room.

According to the post, the author returned from the store on an ordinary day. Dusk had fallen, and no lights were on in the house. From the unlit kitchen came an unfamiliar voice saying "hello?" The author says they stood and peered into the dark, whereupon the voice repeated the word in precisely the same pitch and tone. The author answered with a "Hello?" of their own.

Before the voice said anything further, the poster writes, a tall black figure became visible in the gloom. Instinct took over. The author threw an uppercut and reports that it landed on something that felt wrong: a chin, as it were, with all the skin and tissue of a person but no bone beneath. Something stumbled backward, the post says, and made no other sound.

When the author switched on the light, the kitchen was empty. Only then, the poster says, did the word "mimic" come to mind. The author concludes that striking it was possibly the worst response available, though the post does not say why.

The account closes on a note of urgency. The author asks, three times in as many sentences, what should be done next and what the consequences might be. The post offers no later sightings, and no mundane explanation is given. Readers of the forum are left to supply their own counsel.
