Fresno Uncle Predicts Own Death Within the Week, Sets Condition on Mausoleum Locks
A retro radio compilation revives a 1979 drama in which a nephew inherits everything, provided he checks the family crypt daily.
FRESNO, CALIF. — An uncle in Fresno summons his nephew, a Hollywood photographer, and informs him that he will be dead within a week. So runs the premise of "Shadows From The Grave," a radio drama revived this week in a long retro-radio program from Weird Darkness.
According to the program's description, the old man then leaves the young man his entire estate on a single condition: that he check the locks on the family mausoleum every day, without fail. The description does not say what the locks are meant to keep in, or out.
The drama originally aired on CBS Radio Mystery Theater on February 28, 1979, according to the episode's chapter listing. It opens the compilation shortly after a show introduction, and Weird Darkness notes that the audio has been remastered or cleaned up to make it more listenable.
The broadcast runs more than five hours in total. Its schedule lists ten further dramas from the golden age of radio, among them "The Tell-Tale Heart" from 1953, "Born Of Man And Woman" from 1974, and "Spirits Of Vengeance" from 1947. One entry, "Curse Of Neanderthal" from 1942, is flagged as low quality.
Listeners seeking the fate of the Fresno nephew, and the state of the mausoleum's locks, are directed to the Spreaker recording. The source offers no further detail on the matter.
