ANCIENT ENIGMAS
Solar Observatory Said Found in Mexico as Digest Weighs Maya Myths and a Rogan Row
A Anomalist digest entry points readers to a reported 2,500-year-old observatory, a Belize excavation, and a skeptic's gift of an 'alien head' rock.
MEXICO — A digest entry on The Anomalist, itself pointing to a piece by Above the Norm News, directs readers to the reported identification of a solar observatory and ceremonial complex in Mexico. The article's headline puts its age at 2,500 years and says it reveals mysterious ancient knowledge of the heavens.
According to the digest, writer David Freeman tells the story of the find, in which the architectural layout of the complex is said to be aligned to the observatory's function. The digest's author remarks that more questions than answers are perhaps being raised. The entry does not itself supply the location, the dimensions or the dating method.
The same entry notes a Smithsonian Magazine report by Ellen Ruppel Shell, concerning archaeologists at a Maya metropolis in the forest of Belize. The digest says the researchers are debunking long-held myths about Mesoamerican civilization, and calls the piece, illustrated by Neil Ever Osborne, a wonderful study of the site and its investigators.
The digest then turns to quarrels of a more modern sort. Writer Jason Colavito, it says, has blogged about being discussed on the Joe Rogan podcast, under a title quoting a remark about him as a "Two-Faced Piece of Crap". The digest adds that Colavito appears a little put out at not being invited to a discussion of his book on the Mound Builders.
Finally, skeptical researcher Sharon Hill is reported to have written about an alien head concretion that she herself donated to the public. The digest suggests that readers also follow her link to a post on spooky geology. The concretion, it notes, was pictured at the opening of Rogan's discussion with Dan Richards.
