Nuclear Regulators Said "We Don't Regulate UFOs," MUFON Program Says Records Show
A new episode of the MUFON Briefing Room examines FOIA disclosures from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission about unidentified craft over reactors.
THE INTERNET — The Mutual UFO Network has published a video episode of its Briefing Room series in which host Richard Beckwith asks a question of some gravity: when an unidentified craft hovers over a commercial nuclear reactor, who takes responsibility? According to the program's description, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's answer for decades was, in effect, nobody.
Mr. Beckwith, the post states, reviews recently released internal communications and Freedom of Information Act disclosures from the commission. These records, the description says, reveal a culture of institutional avoidance, underreporting and official denial. Among the items listed are Massachusetts State Police helicopters scrambled over the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station, covered under a chapter headed as a 2015 incident, and an internal email that quips "we don't regulate UFOs."
The episode also profiles a figure it calls an internal whistleblower, senior security specialist Darrell Johnson of the commission's Office of Nuclear Security and Incident Response. According to the chapter list, Mr. Johnson raised an alarm in a 2023 internal security memo. The post adds that statutory mandates in the FY2023 National Defense Authorization Act left the agency unprepared to report anomalous craft to the Pentagon's All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office, and that the agency's chief concern was avoiding congressional embarrassment.
The description argues that decades of civilian field reports are now "validated by the government's own internal paperwork." The material available does not detail the documents themselves, and the claim is MUFON's own characterization. The chapter list does include a segment titled "Analytical Skepticism: Oversight vs. Disclosure," suggesting the program weighs a more modest reading of the records.
The episode runs roughly nine minutes by its chapter markers, and closes with an appeal for viewers to support MUFON's independent research.
