Silverware Vanishes at Montauk Lighthouse as Keeper's Daughter Seeks Answers
A Reddit user says the keeper's quarters have produced a reappearing coffee-maker part, phantom voices and a drawer emptied of forks, knives and spoons.
MONTAUK, N.Y. — A Reddit user posting to r/Paranormal has shared a set of accounts from inside the Montauk Lighthouse, where, according to the post, the author's father has served as keeper for about eight years. The author notes the story had been posted and deleted once before, after commenters accused the writer of fabrication and suggested the tale was machine-made. The author invites doubters to look up the keeper and the lighthouse's haunting claims for themselves.
The father, the post says, does not believe in the paranormal and took the job knowing of the local ghost stories. His first strange episode, the author writes, came with a new coffee maker. He set the last part on the counter, turned to check the instructions, and found it gone. After a thorough search he gave up, closed the machine, and left. The next day, the post says, the part sat in place inside, though he was certain he had never installed it.
A few months later, the account continues, he was alone in his quarters at night when he heard loud voices in the museum below. He went down and found the door locked, the lights off, no cars in the driveway and the gate closed. The author maintains there was no time for anyone to have come and gone unseen.
The father later stopped telling such stories to spare the family alarm, the author says. This August, however, he reportedly admitted that about once a month in bed he feels a change in atmosphere, as though a fog were settling and something were present. He described it as a feeling rather than an apparition.
Then came the silverware. During the author's week-long stay, the post says, a full drawer dwindled daily until hardly a piece remained, and the dishwasher held none. The father later telephoned, apparently suspecting a prank, which the author denies. According to the post, no one else has access to his quarters, and he had to replace the entire drawer.
The author offers no explanation and says they have never personally witnessed anything in many visits. The post closes with a plain question: where did all the silverware go?
