Star Appears Over Hammer and Sickle, Say Board Readers; Others Recall Always Seeing It
A thread on /x/ asks which timeline readers hail from, and finds the flag of the Soviet Union a divisive subject.
4CHAN /X/ — An anonymous poster on 4chan's /x/ board opened a thread this week asserting that the flag of the Soviet Union now carries a star above its hammer and sickle. The author says he is "100% sure" it was not there before, and asks fellow readers whether they, too, hail from the "no star timeline."
The poster holds that anyone who recalls the flag without a star is a transplant from an earlier Earth, shifted into the present arrangement. The thread had drawn 92 replies at last count.
Several respondents came forward in sympathy. One described the claim as the first genuine Mandela Effect of his experience, while another said he had always known the flag without the star and prides himself on a good memory. A third, who recalled two Germanies in his schooldays, said he was unsure whether he had simply never noticed the star. Others offered further candidates for revision, among them a Disney logo sequence in which Tinkerbell uses her wand, and an Uncle Sam hat with red and white stripes.
Explanations varied widely. Some attributed the change to deities behind CERN, to meddling archons, or to an unnamed time traveler disturbing the chain of causality. One poster pointed to a recent controversy over a deleted scene from Lion King 2, in which commenters on a video claim to remember a version that, by the poster's account, was never finished.
Skeptics were also present. One reply suggested the star has always been there but is faint on some flags, and that the older flag of Soviet Russia differed from that of the Soviet Union. Another noted that the Chinese communist flag once lacked a star, a possible source of confusion. A further respondent said that films may simply have used different versions of the flag.
At press time the thread had reached no consensus, though one reader confirmed, in the thread's final lines, that he too is from the no star timeline.
