NIGHT DISTURBANCES

Three Bangs on the Railing, One Latch Unlatched: Blackout Rattles Old Bungalow

A Reddit user says five cousins heard footsteps of a different sort at 2 AM, though nothing was found below and the gate stayed locked.

Strangeness 3 of 5

A Reddit user posting to r/Glitch_in_the_Matrix has described what the author calls a most terrifying experience, which occurred during a power cut at a cousin's house some time ago. The post does not give a date or exact location, though it describes the dwelling as an extremely old bungalow.

According to the post, the author and four cousins left a sweltering living room around 2 AM to sit on a second-floor staircase. All five then heard a loud bang from below, which the author says sounded like a hand slapped against the wooden railing. The sound repeated twice more, each time apparently closer and louder, the last seeming to come from the staircase adjacent to theirs.

The party fled to the living room and locked the door. Minutes later, the author writes, they heard what sounded unmistakably like a door being opened on the first floor, including the squeak of a latch being slowly worked. The household has one steel gate, the post says, and only one key, held by a grandfather who was asleep on the third floor and was not seen or heard descending.

The author adds some background: the family is deeply religious, and stories have long circulated of a Rakhandar, described as a wandering guardian deity said to patrol the premises at night. The door the cousins believe they heard opening was a small place of worship housing the deity's idol.

Eventually, the post says, the group went downstairs to look for intruders. They found no forced entry, nobody hiding, and nothing out of place. The steel gate remained locked.

The author reports having no explanation, and says they are not keen to jump to paranormal conclusions, though they cannot account for the sounds, particularly the latch. No mundane cause was offered in the post.
