Fifth-Grader Floats Upstairs, Begs Mother to 'Keep the Peace' After Visit From Blue-Lit Blobs
A Reddit user recalls a late-1990s Long Island basement night, and still cannot say what the shimmering, chicken-colored visitors wanted.
LONG ISLAND, N.Y. — A Reddit user posting to r/Experiencers has set down an account of a childhood night in a finished basement on Long Island, which the author says remains unexplained decades later. The events are described as taking place in the late 1990s, when the writer was in fifth grade.
According to the post, the author was sitting on the edge of a bottom bunk after bedtime when the room filled with a shimmering blue light. The writer likens it to a dark indoor swimming pool lit only by an underwater lamp. At the foot of the stairs, the post says, were several shapeless, pinkish-tan blobs, none taller than a foot, which the author compares to raw bone-in chicken pieces.
The author reports being overwhelmed by an emotion of great weight, though not by fear. The feeling is described as empathetic and sympathetic, and as if it had been imposed from outside. The writer's impression was that the creatures were in conflict among themselves, and that humans were being asked to act as a third party.
The next thing the author recalls, by the post's account, is the room having seemingly filled with water and a sensation of floating up the stairs. The child then woke the mother and, crying, would say only that they needed to keep the peace. The author notes having no habit of seeking comfort in a parent's bed at that age, and says there was no fever of the sort that had sometimes caused strange experiences before.
The writer is cautious about drawing connections. A gifted-program test at school may have occurred earlier that day, but the author puts the odds of that at roughly one in five hundred and declines to build a theory on it. The post closes by asking readers whether the episode was a screen memory, 'raw chicken aliens', or something else, and states a persistent feeling of having been contacted.
