Grey Beast the Size of a Bear Crosses Indiana Backroad in Pre-Dawn Hours
A college student on fall break says she and her father braked for what she took to be a deer, only to see something far larger and faster.
INDIANA — A Reddit user posting to r/Paranormal reports an unexplained encounter on a rural Indiana road, in which she and her father were nearly crossed by a fast grey animal she cannot identify.
According to the post, the author, an 18-year-old college student home on fall break, accompanied her father on a night fishing trip. His chosen lake lay some 40 to 50 minutes from their home, reached by a gravel backroad. They arrived near 2 a.m., caught nothing, and, she writes, enjoyed themselves nonetheless.
Between 3:30 and 4 a.m., driving home because of the chill, the author says she felt an unusual urge to look out the driver's side window, which is curious, she notes, as she suffers from motion sickness. She then saw something grey rushing toward the road and shouted a warning about a deer. Her father stopped the car.
No deer appeared. The creature, she writes, was roughly the size of a bear, moved in a perfectly straight line as though chasing something, and vanished the instant it crossed the tree line. Her father found the straight course odd. The pair waited a few minutes, but nothing else passed. They had no dashboard camera.
The author says she looked into the matter afterward. By her account, no bear has been reported in the area since the late 1990s, and the only grey bears she could find were in Alaska. She describes herself as not a great believer in the paranormal, though experiences at her dorm have made her curious. Friends interested in such matters suggested a skinwalker.
The post closes with a request for ideas. No mundane explanation was offered in the source, and the animal remains, for the moment, unidentified.
