A new Tesla Roadster was unveiled at SpaceX's Rocket Test and Development Center in McGregor, Texas, according to a report by T.K. Randall for Unexplained Mysteries, which in turn credits the Independent. The vehicle, the report says, was shown driving up a curved ramp until it was upside-down, then dropping, flipping in mid-air and coming gently to rest while hovering.

The machine is described as a collaboration between Tesla and SpaceX. By the account given, it relies on compressed air forced through 10 thruster nozzles to achieve its flying abilities, along with a fan system said to help it grip the road even when inverted.

Mr. Musk is reported to have claimed that the car can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 0.81 seconds and will break numerous track records. Of its cornering, he is quoted as saying it will look "like you're breaking physics because the car sticks to the ground so hard."

The article notes that Mr. Musk conceded the car may not be legal to drive in every country. It is nonetheless to be sold as a road car, with manufacturing slated to begin in 2028. "So, it's going to be pretty wild that you can have a rocket car," he is quoted as saying.

The author, for his part, allows that the car is not quite the flying vehicle of Back to the Future Part 2, but calls it arguably the most futuristic car yet seen. All performance figures remain claims made at the event; no independent testing is mentioned in the report.
