NIGHT SOUNDS

Mechanical Birdsong at 3 A.M. Puzzles Poster; Board Debates Birds, Bots and Armbands

An anonymous /x/ poster reports an hour of identical whistling from the dark sky, and the thread soon drifts into other matters.

Strangeness 2 of 5

An anonymous poster on 4chan's /x/ board has asked fellow readers to explain what the author calls "fake birds": a constant whistle heard around 3 A.M., in full darkness, repeating at an exact interval of about two seconds.

According to the post, the sound continued for an hour, then moved to the other side of the house. The author says they went outside to look, saw no birds, and felt the sound came from the sky rather than the trees. The poster acknowledged the account might sound unwell, but asked whether anyone else had had the experience.

Replies offered several explanations. One commenter suggested a Varied Thrush and linked a recording. The poster's follow-up, or another reader's, countered that the sound was closer to an intricate whistle, identical each time with no variation for hours. Another reader argued that species sing at set times of day, the earliest around 3:30 A.M., and that a species repeats the same song because variation would defeat its purpose.

Other responders leaned toward the supernatural. One said they had woken at 3 A.M. for several nights, once at 3:13 and once at 3:33, and tied it to a coming "incursion impact event." Another proposed that monitoring spirits sometimes take animal forms.

Much of the thread, however, concerned the board itself. Several posters accused the original post of being machine-generated, and one replied with an instruction-override prompt to test the theory. Others complained of bot floods since the site was taken down for maintenance. A lengthy side debate arose over a proposal that posters sign their messages with three-letter marks to identify themselves as sincere participants, which critics likened to an armband. No one in the sampled replies reported hearing the whistle themselves, and the matter of the sky birds remains open.
