Former Pentagon UFO Chief Casts Doubt on FBI Black Triangle Report; Enthusiasts Bristle
Sean Kirkpatrick's remarks on a sighting that came after his tenure at AARO have set off a fresh quarrel in the UFO community.
THE INTERNET — Sean Kirkpatrick, a former head of the Pentagon's All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office, has stirred considerable argument among followers of the UFO question with his doubts about an FBI-linked sighting of a black triangular object, according to a digest entry on The Anomalist, which points to coverage originally published by Fox News.
The Anomalist's summary, signed "WM," describes the interview as heavily edited but says it contains sound opinions on how to analyze anomalous events. Among them, the digest says, is Kirkpatrick's view that failing to explain more of the Pentagon's analyses of its reports was about the worst thing the office could have done.
The digest also finds fault with the Fox article, noting that a caption under the photograph of the triangular object says it is not confirmed whether the image is a real photograph or a reconstruction, a statement the digest says the article's own text later contradicts.
The dispute has spread well beyond the original piece. Ben Schreckinger of Paradigm reports that Kirkpatrick said he worked with a Lockheed executive and traced claims of alien craft to would-be technology profiteers. According to the digest, Schreckinger also notes a more direct and controversial Lockheed Martin matter in Kirkpatrick's response to claims in Jay Stratton's new book.
Writer Jason Colavito, as summarized, adds further criticism of To The Stars Academy of Arts and Science. He suggests that the allegation about Lockheed holding a fleet of captured flying saucers is a very recent one. The Anomalist says this might be compared with a reference in Jacques Vallée's journals.
Not all parties concur. Jeremy Corbell and George Knapp have answered the commotion with a video titled "The Pentagon's UFO Debunker Is Lying." The digest closes on a note of resignation: "And so it goes."
